Hinsdale, originally known for its woolen mills, has transformed through the years and is now a quaint New England town. It is home to many businesses and summer camps. Hinsdale’s two lakes, Ashmere and Plunkett Reservoir, provide recreational opportunities to residents. A section of the East Branch of the Housatonic River is located in Hinsdale, and 440 acres of the Appalachian Trail bisect the town. There are over 1500 acres of state-owned open space within the Town’s borders, and there are an influx of visitors during the summer months, enjoying the peaceful, wooded hills, lakes, and fresh air.
